The Spirit of Heracles

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Tendo-san, how aout taking a break?

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Yes, let's do that. But before that...

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
...?

Amemiya:
You caught me waiting. Sorry for interrupting you during your practice.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
There's no need for apologies. I was planning on taking a break just now anyway.

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
It's unusual for you to be here at this hour, Amemiya-san. Is something the matter?

Amemiya:
Yeah, I was hoping to hear the opinions of Group A members regarding the screenplay practice assignment.

Amemiya:
The assignment is to put a new spin on the play of "Heracles and the Lion".

Amemiya:
I can come up with lots of different ideas, but...I'm having trouble concentrating on one script to complete and submit.

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
And that is why you came ot us?

Amemiya:
If you have a moment, perhaps you, the performers, could tell me what you think.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Yes, of course.

Amemiya:
Thank you. Are you both familiar with the play of "Heracles and the Lion" that this performance will be adapted from?

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
It's a play based on Greek mythology and the battle between the hero, Heracles, and the lion from the Nemea valley.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Yes, a life or death battle over three days and three nights, between Heracles and a lion with a hide thick enough that even a blade forged by the gods was unable to damage it.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
I've also seen it performed multiple times.

Amemiya:
Then this shouldn't take long. About my first idea regarding the script... Oh! Tendo-san, if you wouldn't mind, could you perform it and let me hear your impressions?

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Sure. Let me give the script a once over.

Amemiya:
Tsuyuzaki-san, can you tell me what you think of Tendo-san's performance? I would like to hear your opinions while they're still fresh.

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
You got it!

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Amemiya-san, I've finished reading it over. ...There is something I wanted to ask...

Amemiya:
Stop! We should step away from Tsuyuzaki-san, as I want her to watch without being influenced in any way.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
That said, is there no more information you can give us? I don't think it's proper to act out something that's misunderstood.

Amemiya:
Well, you have a point... Okay then, I'll give you a proper explanation as to why I chose to include the competition.

Amemiya:
The reason I chose this theme, was because the spirit of competition matched my vision of Heracles.

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
...Competition? Is there some kind of sport?

Amemiya:
The first half of "Heracles and the Lion"-

Amemiya:
Heracles' battle with the ferocious lion would not only ruthlessly train his physical strength, but also allow him to grow mentally, right?

Amemiya:
When I looked into it even more, I found some interesting comments from the champion. This is one of his comments.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
"Impose difficult trials on yourself daily, training for such a purpose, and continuing to win with a strong will. An accumulation of victories will lead to confidence, and a smile."

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
This is the same thing from the image of Heracles that you mentioned earlier, Amemiya-san...

Amemiya:
That's right. At first, it was because of the similarities in appearance, but I intuitively thought that they were also similar in spirit.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
...I see. Then what about this yelling in the script? It's kind of like the shouting characteristics of a Kabuki performance.

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
You mean when the audience yells out things during the performance?

Amemiya:
Exactly, Tsuyuzaki-san. The same for the competition that I'm trying to incorporate, there will be many voices coming from the audience.

Amemiya:
Partially because of that, the venue will be in full swing. I'm not sure how it will go down as a stage performance, but I would like to give it a try.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
I understand where you are coming from. Okay then, I will give it a try.

Amemiya:
Yes, please. I will read out the stage directions.

Amemiya:
Okay then, let's go from the top of page three. Whenever you're ready.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
(As Heracles)
"Nemean lion, your hide is thick enough to break the swiftest of arrows, and the sharpest of blades. But behold, my glorious muscles!"

Amemiya:
...The crowd cheers for Heracles.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
(As crowd)
"Heracles! Your muscles are so big, even the Titans don't stand a chance!"

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
What...!?

Maya (icon).png Maya:
(As Heracles)
"My thick and burly biceps will smash open your skull with a single blow of my club!"

Amemiya:
...The crowd grows even more excited.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
(As crowd)
"Heracles! Your biceps are as big as Mt. Olympus!"

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Um, what the... Mt. Olympus?!"

Maya (icon).png Maya:
(As Heracles)
"And with these highly trained trapezius muscles, I will choke you for three days and three nights!"

Amemiya:
...The cheers continue.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
(As crowd)
"That's right! You could build the Parthenon on those trapezius muscles, couldn't you?!"

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
The Parthenon built on trapezius muscles...?!

Amemiya:
You exceeded my expectations, Tendo-san... But something is... It certainly has impact, but...

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Yeah, it does have impact, but...

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Hmm... Oh, I know! You have some other proposals too, right? How about giving it more thought after performing the others?

Amemiya:
...! That could work. Right, Tsuyuzaki-san, could you read this book please?

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Of course! Uhm...

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
"Heracles & Flamenco"...?! Amemiya-san...

Maya (icon).png Maya:
We're getting off topic...

Twelve Bitter Experiences

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
Hey, what s that smell?!

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Ah, welcome home, Clau-chan. Sorry, I was making Kocho-san's special drink, but I made a little too much.

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
Shizuha's...? I had heard the rumors, but I didn't expect it to be this intense...

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Yep. On their own they weren't too bad, but after making twelve different types, all of the smells combined together.

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
Twelve different types?! How did this happen...?!

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Haha, hear me out...

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
I'm back!

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Tsuyuzaki-san! You're back from from shopping. That's a lot of stuff. Let me hold some.

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Thanks, that would really help.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
This is... Wow, this is pretty heavy. This would make for great training for the role of Heracles.

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Heh heh. Speaking of Heracles, I met Kocho-san while I was out shopping...

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Oh, I see. Twelve different special drinks, one for each of Heracless achievements?

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
She taught me the recipe when we were discussing "Heracles and the Lion".

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
She said that drinking them all would help recover from fatigue and allow you to easily build muscle, but...

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
...?

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
The smell and taste are supposedly dreadful...

Maya (icon).png Maya:
That's one thing... That said, I hear that the effects of Kocho-san's drinks are guaranteed.

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Does that mean you're interested in trying them, Tendo-san?

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Yes, us meeting like this must have been fate. It might be good to give it a try.

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Really? When you put it like that, I'll try to make some after today's lesson.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
You don't mind?

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Yeah, I was curious as to what it might be like.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Then I will take you up on your offer.

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
So that's why there are twelve types. That said, the smell is really something...

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Yeah, when I got the recipe, I knew it would be terrible, and I warned Tendo-san, but...

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
Ahh... She probably said something along the lines of "Heracles faced tougher training than this", right?

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
That's amazing, Clau-chan. You're spot on!

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
I thought as much.

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Thendo-san's motivation toward the Heracles performance really shows.

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
...Progeny of the omnipotent Zeus- Needless to say, elite by nature.

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Huh...?

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
Not being overly prideful of one's natural talent, and endeavoring to live up to expectations - it's that kind of role.

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
It's not unusual to build upon yourself.

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Heh heh, someone's looking forward ot seeing how Tendo-san plays heracles.

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
I didn't say that...!

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Did someone say my name?

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
Maya Tendo?! You should have said something!

Maya (icon).png Maya:
I did. The two of you were so caught up in your story that you didn't notice.

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
Ngh...

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Welcome home, Tendo-san. Kocho-san's special drink is ready. Here you go!

Maya (icon).png Maya:
One, two... There really are twelve types. I can't wait to see how effective they are.

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
How can you not even mention the smell?

Maya (icon).png Maya:
I heard about it in advance. Right... I'll give the green one a try first.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Gulp... Ngh...!

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Tendo-san, are you okay?!

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
What's wrong?!

Maya (icon).png Maya:
...Gulp...gulp... Whew...

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Amazing, you downed the entire glass.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Heracles was also able to achieve glory after overcoming his trials. This is all for the greatest performance.

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
...!

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
Mahiru, you said you made too much, right? Could I also have one of those drinks?

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
...!? Are you sure?

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
If it's a trial, then I want to try it too!

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
When you put it like that... Okay - here's yours, Clau-chan.

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
Ng... It's not just the smell, the color is just as bad...

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Are you all right?

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
...! Of course I'm all right. Ngh...gulp...gulp...!

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
...!!

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
Whew...! I drank it all!

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Saijo-san, you're really going for it too. Tsuyuzaki-san, may I have the next drink please?

Mahiru (icon).png Mahiru:
Sure!

Claudine (icon).png Claudine:
Huff... Huff... I won't give up until I drink all twelve, Maya Tendo!

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Yes, I expect nothing less.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
The supreme deity of Greek mythology, Zeus, and his son, Heracles - even if it's for different plays, I feel that it was a twist of fate that I ended up playing the part of both.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
I was surprised with the new direction Amemiya-san decided to take, but it was a great experience that allowed me to catch a glimpse into an unknown world.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
After it all, the wonderful screenplay of "Heracles and the Lion" that ended up in our hands, was the result of great trial and error.

Maya (icon).png Maya:
Facing difficulties and aiming higher and higher without being prideful of the current situation - this is the spirit of Heracles. I hope to always keep this in mind.
