Seisho Music Academy put on a performance of a mafia drama set in Italy, but while rehearsing a costume design miscommunication throws their assigned roles into question.

Full Synopsis[]

The event opens with a script reading of the play Mafia Famiglia: Shadow of Omertà, opening for the birthday of underworld boss Don Broschi’s 10 year old daughter, Elena. Kaoruko Hanayagi plays Elena, and Nana Daiba plays Melissa, Elena’s maid. Elena’s brothers, played by Hikari Kagura and Junna Hoshimi arrive, and Elena greets them. They cut and retry the scene, Junna trying a lower energy middle brother. Claudine Saijo, playing Don Brioschi, overlooks the scene, before Futaba Isurugi announces the arrival of Don Bartolome Salvatore, played by Maya Tendo. Maya enters alongside Mahiru Tsuyuzaki, and they propose an idea of “pushing snow” to make money. Don Brioschi, discussing the matter with Melissa after, says he turned down the offer, but is willing to leave Salvatore to his business, but wants someone to watch him. Melissa agrees and says she’ll have people look into it. Karen Aijo, playing a member of the Brioschi family, seeks out Don Salvatore, wanting to help them persuade Don Brioschi to help shovel snow. Don Salvatore plans to use Karen’s character to kidnap Elena, as bait to lure Melissa, who is actually a hitwoman, out.

After the script reading, Karen, Hikari, and Maya all compliment Mahiru’s performance as the dealer even in just the initial script reading. She feels mixed to hear the praise at first, but ultimately accepts it as more of the 99th class compliment her. They also talk about Karen’s slip ups during the performance, telling her she needs to work harder at getting the lines right so they don’t risk breaking character on stage. They talk about her mispronouncing “omertà” as “omelette,” and how different “Mafia Famiglia: Shadow of Omelette” would be as a story, before Mahiru compliments her acting in spite of the mistakes. Kaoruko fishes for compliments, but Hikari and Junna ignore her in favor of complimenting the other’s performance. Kaoruko is mad she’s being ignored, but Futaba says that they can’t compliment her early, or else she’ll slack off during rehearsals, and they’re all waiting until after the performance to compliment her performance. Kaoruko is still upset, and becomes determined to impress them all with her performance. Maya says she’s looking forward to it, and Claudine tries to tease her for going soft, but Maya says Don Salvatore is as much a lead as Elena, and a portrait of manly pride and mafia pathos and will use the experience for the next lead role she plays. Claudine says she won’t let her take the role without a fight, and Nana comments on how close the two are, while Junna says they’re about to start fighting at any moment. Nana, Junna, and Futaba talk about their excitement over the costumes. Futaba in particular is excited to get to dress up as a maid. They talk about Futaba playing the head maid, and how Futaba likes that her character is quick-witted and chases off the rival family with a bluff. Futaba also talks about what she needs to work on for the role, and Kaoruko tries to cut in again, but everyone cuts her off to say their own plans to perfect their roles, frustrating Kaoruko at being ignored.

Kaoruko goes to check on the costume development, disappointed they haven’t finished her costume yet, held up with Claudine’s. Futaba is surprised to see Kaoruko checking on costume development, and wishes she’d care this much about performances where she isn’t the lead role. Kaoruko laments not being able to try on her costume, and Futaba offers to take her to the costume rental shop she was planning to go to try on a maid outfit to help get into the role. They run across Mahiru, struggling to perfect her lines, and Kaoruko suggests she come to the rental shop as well, thinking maybe trying on a costume will help her get into character better. Mahiru agrees, and the three head out together. At the rental shop, Kaoruko is trying to decide between dresses, and asks for opinions, agreeing with Mahiru’s and dismissing Futaba’s. While Kaoruko is changing, Mahiru asks Futaba if she thinks Kaoruko is similar to Elena, and Futaba complains about Kaoruko, knowing full well she can still hear. Futaba and Mahiru both find costumes and change into them, while Kaoruko changes her mind about her outfit. They practice a scene where Elena is hiding and doesn’t have any lines, and Kaoruko laments being left out and how hard it is to put the dress on. On the way back, Kaoruko is in a good mood from their costume practice, having turned the scene into improvisation after making Elena come out from hiding. Futaba complains about it, but Mahiru says it helped her get into character better.

Maya and Hikari are rehearsing a gun fight scene between Don Salvatore and the oldest brother. After rehearsing, they talk about the prop gun. Hikari says it’s too heavy, but Maya says that, for it to be realistic, it should actually be a bit heavier. Hikari asks if she’s held a real gun. Maya says she has, but before she can explain Claudine enters, complimenting their work on the scene, but says that Maya should be able to hold the gun with only one hand. Hikari asks for a demonstration, and Claudine decides to do a reading of the final scene between Melissa, Elena, and Don Salvatore, playing Elena. Hikari is impressed, but Maya critiques her gun holding technique, and they both reveal they’ve been to Guam and shot real guns there. Claudine wonders if Maya had just intended to embarrass her the whole time, withholding from her that she’d shot a gun before, but Maya says that limiting yourself to only your own experiences is a mistake, and Claudine’s perspective was helpful for her. Hikari says she wants to shoot a gun too, and the three think about traveling abroad together.

At night at the dorm, Karen comes across Junna eating onigiri made by Nana, and asks for her own. Nana makes some for her, and Karen is so excited she wants seconds, but Junna says she can’t or she’ll put on weight. Nana gives them ginger tea to drink before bed, and Karen comments on how if she had a maid she’d have them take care of her like this every day, which Junna says she already has Mahiru do. Karen tries to accuse her of being the same way with Nana, but Nana says that Junna is the same in their room as she is outside, and says Junna is actually the one taking care of her most of the time, helping her study and taking care of her if she falls asleep at her desk. Karen says she wants the studying help, but Junna refuses. Nana offers instead, saying she wouldn’t be as cool as Melissa, but Karen says she would be, and talks about her having a concealed banana gun and eating a real banana at the same time. They talk about Nana’s performance as Melissa, and Junna mentions that there’s a role she thinks Nana would be better suited for, but tries to brush it off. Karen falls asleep while Junna does the dishes. Nana asks what character she thought she was more suited for, and Junna tells her to guess. Nana guesses the middle brother, saying that prettyboy characters with a dark side are Junna’s specialty, but she’d like to try her hand on it. Junna corrects her earlier statement that there were other roles Nana was more suited to, saying instead that she doesn’t think anyone could play Melissa quite the way Nana has. Karen sneezes while sleeping, and Junna and Nana plan to bring her back to her room before sleeping.

They’re doing a final rehearsal, before Mahiru comes in with the costumes. Their sizes have been messed up, particularly between Nana, Kaoruko, and Maya’s costumes. Elena’s costume fits Nana, Salvatore’s fits Kaoruko, and Melissa’s fits Maya, but all of the other costumes are correct. They try and figure out what to do, and Karen suggests they switch the roles so everyone plays the costume that fits. Mahiru worries it’ll be too late to switch everything, but Junna says she thinks it could work, because the role she thought Nana suited best was Elena’s. Futaba says she thinks a big mafioso role would suit Kaoruko best, and Claudine asks if Maya thinks she can pull off the maid role. They immediately switch into the scene with the switched roles, everyone agreeing that it works really well. Mahiru asks how Junna figured Nana would work so well as Elena. Junna says that she had thought that if, like Maya said, this was an opportune chance for them to become men, it was also an opportune chance for someone tall like Nana to play the role of a child, but they’d been cast more by their appearance than by their skills. They agree the new roles fit better, and Maya comments that they seem determined to put her in a maid outfit. It’s up to Kaoruko to decide if they do the role switch, since she’d be giving up her lead role, but she complains that Futaba got her out of character and says her lines with a Kyoto accent, deciding it sounds best and planning to play Don Salvatore with that accent.
