Profile

Minku Umibe (海辺 みんく, Umibe Minku) is a second-year student in the Siegfeld Institute of Music Junior High, introduced as a cast member of the stage play Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight -The LIVE Edel- Delight and implemented in Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight Re LIVE in summer 2022.

The maverick of Siegfeld Institute of Music Junior High. While skilled in singing and dancing, her grades are poor because she tends to improvise and go off the beaten path. She and Ryoko often take supplementary lessons together. Hasn't figured out what kind of Stage Girl she wants to become yet.[2]

Personality[]

Minku is not as concerned with the stresses of Siegfeld as her peers, frequently going off-book during lessons.[3] She is more concerned with making friends and making sure people are enjoying themselves. However, Minku is often paying close attention to the people around her. She tends to avoid dealing with hard things that come in her life, a source of self-hatred for her, either by hiding her worries behind her carefree attitude or relying on other people to take care of her problems.[4]

Background[]

Minku grew up somewhere in the mountains with Kuina. When they were children, they made a promise at Mt. Fuji to become the "best in the universe" at their respective disciplines--Minku as an idol, Kuina as a stage actress.[5] Minku went on to join Sweet Pleats and become its center. There, she met Ichie, who taught her about being an idol.[6] After Sweet Pleats was abandoned by its agency, Minku gave up on her dream to become an idol. When she saw how much fun Kuina had with theater, Minku decided to go into theater as well and followed Kuina to Siegfeld Institute of Music's junior high school, where she was accepted despite doing little to no preparation.[7]

Relationships[]

Kuina Moriyasu[]

Minku and Kuina grew up together in the mountains. They used to play together often, chasing weasels and climbing trees.[8] When they were children, they made a promise at Mt. Fuji to become the "best in the universe" at their respective disciplines--Minku as an idol, Kuina as a stage actress. After Minku gave up on being an idol, their relationship soured since Kuina resented Minku for giving up on her side of the promise and Minku didn't know how to confront Kuina about her newfound coldness. They resolve matters in Stage of Farewell - Die zwei ersten Sterne, where Minku promises to become the best stage actress and Kuina declares the two of them rivals.

Despite being very different people and having trouble with communication, Minku and Kuina are very close, with Minku often teasing Kuina. Minku admires Kuina's intensity as a performer but worries about Kuina's happiness as she aims for the position of Frau Platin. She wishes to stay close with Kuina and "keep experiencing Kuina's brilliance" forever, making her terrified of losing Kuina in any way. Kuina seems to be disapproving of Minku's easygoing attitude, but she admits that part of her wished Minku would have continued being an idol because she enjoyed supporting her as the one who "shone the brightest" in Sweet Pleats.

Ichie Otonashi[]

Minku met Ichie during their time together in Sweet Pleats, when Ichie became Minku's "master" and taught Minku about being an idol. With Ichie, Minku feels comfortable expressing emotions she normally tries to hide, and Minku looks to Ichie for guidance. She has a great amount of respect for Ichie and takes her advice seriously.[6]

Ryoko Kobato[]

Due to spending time together in supplementary lessons, Minku considers Ryoko a close friend and "feels safe whenever she's around".[9] Minku calls Ryoko "Ryonryon." Ryoko heard the rumor about the Revues' existence from Minku,[10] and when Minku notices how she's changed, Ryoko tells Minku about the Revue she had with Stella.[11] Minku loves Ryoko's acting and is inspired by Ryoko's clear love for the stage.[10] She believes that Ryoko has what it takes to become an Edel.[12] While Minku praises Ryoko's growth, it also makes her worried about her own stagnation, and inspired her to take action in her situation with Kuina.[13]

Stella Takachiho[]

Minku welcomed Stella with open arms when she first transferred to Siegfeld. She calls Stella "Su-chan."

Shiro Ogami[]

Shiro finds Minku fascinating, referring to her as a "strange creature". Minku calls Shiro "Shirorin".

Michiru Otori[]

Michiru was a fan of Minku when Minku was in Sweet Pleats. In Regalia, Michiru gives Minku the same advice that Ichie gives Minku in the game story.

Etymology[]

  • The name Minku Umibe is based on the extinct sea mink (ウミベミンク, umibe minku).
    • The given name Minku (みんく) is the Japanese pronunciation of "mink", but written in hiragana rather than katakana.
    • Minku's surname Umibe means "seaside"; "sea" (海) (umi) and "side" (辺) (be).

Trivia[]

  • According to Ryoko, it takes her one glance to memorize a dance routine.[14]
  • The time on the clock on her Revue cape is 7:00, or 19:00. The sea mink went extinct at some point between 1860-1920. The last official record was in 1894.
    • The placement of 1900 could be a point in the estimated range, or it could be intentionally after the last record, indicating how Minku had to give up on her previous dream of being an idol.
    • The hands of Minku's clock are an exact mirror of Kuina's (pointing to 15:00).
  • She's extremely good at pickling.[15]
  • Minku's weapon is a chakram, a circular throwing weapon originating in India. In Japan, the weapon was associated with ninjas.
  • She has the weakest grip strength in the junior high.[16]
  • The first ingredient that Minku eats when eating ramen is naruto.[16]
