Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight -The STAGE Junior High- Remains (少女☆歌劇 レヴュースタァライト -The STAGE 中等部- Remains; Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight -The STAGE Chūtō-bu- Remains) is a stage play presented at HIKOSEN Theater in Tokyo between July 6 to 15, 2024.
Two performances on July 15 were made available for online streaming for domestic and international viewers on eplus.
Summary[]
Having seen the Seisho, Siegfeld, and Seiran Play Exchange Program's "The Wartime of Farewells" through to success, Stella and the others have taken a big step forward as Stage Girls.
Then, another exchange program begins.
The name of their partner school is Romana Scuola d'Arte Drammatica.
It is a newly established school that was founded five years ago. With the rumors of them snatching up excellent students from exchange programs, they possess a shady history.
The play Romana has chosen is Oscar Wilde's "Salome", which was once banned due to its content being deemed radical and degenerate.
To play Salome, one must steal others' brilliance and be a pure egoist with infinite desires.
Appearing before the bewildered Stella is none other than Mikoto Aragami,
her old rival from her time in Munich, Germany...
"Stella Takachiho. I will steal everything from you, and play Salome."[1]
Synopsis[]
WARNING: This section contains spoilers for the stage play.
The play opens with the sound of rain, and Mikoto Aragami (in a raincoat) and Haruka Naoe (with an umbrella) are seen in the rain. Mikoto lists various words that are used to describe the rain in Japanese: shigure (rain shower in late autumn or early winter), kirisame (drizzle), raiu (thunderstorm), sakuraame (rain that falls when the cherry blossoms are in bloom), aobaame (rain that falls on newly green leaves), shuurin (long autumn rain), kitsune no yomeiri (sunshowers). She comments on how the plethora of words that are used to describe the rain are a virtue of the Japanese people who lived together with nature since ancient times. Mikoto asks Haruka if she dislikes the rain, and she says no, but questions why they had to meet outside. Mikoto says she wanted to listen to the rain, and Haruka says it's a bother, and Mikoto says it's about immersing herself in the appreciation of it. Jurina Aikawa, speaking like a showa yankee, and Nadeshiko Sumeragi appear on the scene. Jurina complains about the rain and tries to poke fun at Mikoto for wanting to listen to the rain, but quickly apologizes at her glare. She delivers her report on the Tokyo Art Hall, where the National Performance Competition will be held, explaining the details all the way down to the reverberation time. Nadeshiko reports on the judges for the competition: there are seven judges including theater professionals and people involved with junior high theater, but the director Yukie Ichimatsu is present, so her opinion may outweigh the other judges'. Mikoto comments that it's amazing that such a "queen of theater" is judging the competition, and Nadeshiko says that Ichimatsu's preferences can be seen in recent performances which won awards. Haruka suggests that they should avoid choosing a play that junior high students would usually perform. Azuma Soga appears, late, and hesitantly delivers her report about their competitors, singling out Siegfeld Institute of Music Junior High as their strongest opponent. Mikoto asks if she's influenced by her own circumstances, and Azuma objects at first, but then admits that she is, but they're a strong opponent, and they have two new transfer students from Germany, Stella Takachiho and Shiro Ogami. Mikoto takes a moment to digest this and then laughs maniacally, and says this must be karma. She then announces to the others that she's decided what to perform for the national competition: Oscar Wilde's Salome.
Stella, wearing a red veil, sings an opera performance that includes a part of Salome, Op. 54, and the rest of the Junior High appear and dance, with Shiro wearing a purple veil, Ryoko Kobato wearing a yellow veil, Minku Umibe wearing a pink veil, and Kuina Moriyasu wearing a black veil. They then summarize the plot of Salome together: In the palace of Judea, the princess Salome falls in love with the imprisoned prophet Jokanaan, who rejects her. Salome wants to kiss Jokanaan no matter what, so she performs a dance for King Herod, and then asks for Jokanaan's head. The junior high are shocked by the vulgarity of the play, and feel like it's not suitable for junior high students to perform, as Kuina hands out the scripts. They express this to Saikawa-sensei when she appears, and she agrees. They find out the play was suggested by Romana Drama School, which nobody has heard of, which Saikawa-sensei says makes sense as they're from a different region. Only Shiro has heard of the school, and the rumors of them stealing excellent students from their exchange program partner schools. Minku jokingly wonders if she'd get recruited by them, and Kuina says that won't happen because they only take excellent students. Kuina says she'd never go, as she's devoted to Siegfeld, and Stella and Ryoko both agree that they wouldn't go. Shiro hesitates at first, but then assures Stella that she'd never leave her. Saikawa-sensei reassures them, and says that she chose the five of them to participate as they did such a great job in the The Wartime of Farewells performance (in -The STAGE Junior High- Rebellion). They reminisce on The Wartime of Farewells, Kuina and Minku reenacting Catalina and Mariavera's final scene, and Shiro apologizes again for what happened. Stella tells her not to apologize, because they've all moved past it. Minku mentions that they're doing The Wartime of Farewells at Seisho Music Academy again, and Kuina freaks out, asking her who will be playing Catalina.
Haruka (third year) and Nadeshiko (second year) appear and introduce themselves. Nadeshiko asks Minku if she remembers her, and Minku seems to remember, but Haruka tells Nadeshiko off before she can answer. Haruka says they came to greet them as representatives of Romana Drama School, and this exchange program will be very meaningful for them. She begins requesting to confirm the schedule of the program and various details, but Saikawa-sensei cuts her off and asks where her teacher is. Haruka says they hold the right to hold exchange programs independently, without the supervision of a teacher, and she may reach out to their school to confirm. Saikawa-sensei leaves to do just that, and tells them to wait there. Kuina tries to introduce herself, but Haruka says it's not necessary, as she already knows all of their names and faces. Minku and Ryoko are scared of her, especially because she's a year above them. Haruka approaches Stella and says she's honored to meet a Siegfeld, and then asks her why she left Germany for Japan, and if it has anything to do with Stella having to leave the stage when performing the opera. Shiro steps between them, saying they have no obligation to respond to her. Haruka agrees, saying she was simply curious. Shiro changes the subject to the Caligula, the top student of Romana who represents the school, which has recently changed. Haruka begins to announce the new Caligula, and then a song begins where Romana introduce themselves, presenting Mikoto Aragami as the new Caligula (and Mikoto raps).
Mikoto gives a speech to the students of Romana, with Azuma and Jurina standing behind her. She describes how the Roman Empire, which is the basis of Romana Drama School, expanded their reign by invading other countries over and over, building up a massive nation over a thousand years. They will learn from that, and invade other schools to steal their outstanding students and stage systems. She reminds them to consider this exchange program war, and show them the prestige of their school. Mikoto sends Jurina off to scout out the area. Azuma stares at Mikoto with a smile on her face, and Mikoto asks her what's wrong. Azuma says she's violently moved, and may have been born just for this day, because she can't forgive Siegfeld for not recognizing her effort when she tried to get in. Mikoto tells her not to forget that she's a student of Romana now, and a precious comrade to her. She tells her to put all her feelings into facing Siegfeld.
Stella and Shiro are alone together, and Shiro says it's shocking that Mikoto came to Japan, wondering why she left Munich National Academy of Arts, though it wouldn't be strange for her to have dropped out, with how she is. Stella says that Mikoto and Shiro were the only Japanese students in the school, and Shiro says she initially wished to get along with her as fellow students from Japan, but she disliked her self-righteous personality. Shiro begins narrating a flashback to right before the opera performance began. Mikoto comes out, demanding to know why Shiro did that in the scene just prior. Shiro says she simply followed the director's directions, and Mikoto says that doesn't matter, and Shiro's selfish acting ruined her directing plan. Mikoto says everyone else is following her wishes, and asks Shiro to do the same. Shiro says that Mikoto is just an actor, not a director. Mikoto says that sometimes an actor's imagination can surpass that of the director's. She says that that director is just trying to kill the actors' acting and not bringing the best out of them, so she's doing it instead. She tries to convince Shiro that if she follows her orders, she'll shine even brighter, but Shiro hits her on the arm and says that her conceit knows no bounds, and leaves. Mikoto shouts that the Queen of the Night will determine the extent of her conceit. Stella appears, asking Mikoto if she saw Shiro, and Mikoto says she didn't. Mikoto comments that Stella looks nervous, and she says she is, since this is the first time she'll sing an opera in front of such a large audience. Mikoto says that people with a discerning eye gather from all around the world for plays at Munich National Academy of Arts, so even a slight mistake will be fatal. Stella thanks her for her advice, and tries to shake hands with her, hoping to make the stage a success. Mikoto knocks her hand away, and reminds her that they're rivals who fight over roles, and there are tons of people who could take her place. Stella says she knows, and that's why she'll shine for everyone else's sake, but Mikoto says that nobody wants that. She reminds Stella that she's being watched by the eyes of her classmates in the wings, hoping she'll make a mistake; the sly eyes of her co-stars; and the ruthless eyes of the audience. She reminds her that she's always being watched, and tells her that a devil lurks on the stage, and she shouldn't be tempted by it. Stella tries to leave, saying she'll gain some courage from Shiro, but Mikoto grabs her and says she's due on stage soon, so she should stand by. Mikoto tells Stella that she's looking forward to the Queen of the Night.
Audio of Stella's Queen of the Night aria plays, and Mikoto hums along to the song, appreciating Stella's performance. She becomes so moved by Stella's singing that she stops in her tracks and smiles, saying Stella's aria is beautiful, and says "If it's you, pure evil can-" and then is cut off when Stella stops singing. Mikoto wonders if she overestimated her.
The flashback ends, and Shiro asks Stella why she didn't tell her about the conversation she had with Mikoto, but Stella says it's already in the past. Stella says that she's different now, because she became stronger after meeting everyone in Japan, and she wants to talk to Mikoto in order to put the past behind them. Shiro says that it would be fine if Mikoto was someone who would actually listen, and they exit.
Minku sings to herself and skips onto stage, wondering what to eat for dinner. Nadeshiko catches up to her, and Minku recognizes her as a former member of Sweet Pleats, but misremembers her name as Surume (instead of Sumeragi). Nadeshiko is so happy that Minku remembers her, and Minku says that of course she does, even though the kanji in her name was difficult so she couldn't remember that, to which Nadeshiko says she'll change her name to Surume. Minku says she'll remember for real this time, and does a neehee with a hand heart, which strikes Nadeshiko in the heart, making her fall over and mumble to herself about how precious Minku's smile is. She asks how much she should pay Minku, because she'll ask her papa and can pay her any amount, and Minku refuses, while Nadeshiko thanks god for letting her reunite with Minku. Minku almost leaves, but Nadeshiko says that she always looked up to Minku as the shining center of Sweet Pleats. Her standing position was behind Minku diagonally, and she felt superior to the top otakus in the front row cheering because she was closer to Minku than them, and if she pushed the girl in front of her, she could stand next to her, and touch shoulders with her. She says she was "so terribly grateful" (感謝感謝です, kansha kangeki desu) that Minku recognized her, which is one of Minku's catchphrases (she said it in -The STAGE Junior High- Regalia as well), and Minku recognizes it and thanks her, saying she's happy she can stand on stage with Nadeshiko again as well. Nadeshiko assumes Minku is the center of the Junior High and says she needs to work harder, but Minku tells her that Kuina's in charge of wrangling them together, and Stella plays the leads, and if anything she's just falling behind and needs to try harder. Minku thinks of what to eat for dinner from looking at Nadeshiko's face (this was adlibbed for every performance: for the final performance she said "marshmallow nagashi somen special") and runs off. Nadeshiko wonders why she thought of that from looking at her face, and then chases after Minku.
Jurina is scouting out Siegfeld's auditorium, saying that this work doesn't suit her and she should finish up and get out of there as soon as she can. Kuina appears with a broom, and recognizes Jurina's Romana uniform, and asks her what she's doing there. Jurina just says she's on a scouting mission, and Kuina starts to say that outsiders are not permitted in the auditorium, but Jurina says she'll finish up quick and leave. Kuina asks if she has permission, and Jurina asks if it looks like she does, so Kuina asks her to get out. Jurina introduces herself officially, and says she was forced to do this because they have a scary upperclassman, but it doesn't really suit her style. Kuina doesn't care and just wants her to leave, because the auditorium is a sacred place. Jurina says she's got guts for coming at her head on, and Kuina tries to swat her away with the broom but Jurina stops it and goes to stand in the center. Kuina yells at her for standing there, because only Frau Platin is allowed to stand at the center. Jurina is shocked and apologizes, because she didn't realize how important the auditorium was to Kuina. She asks if Kuina is aiming for Frau Platin, and then says that she'll become Caligula one day for sure too. Kuina remembers that Caligula means the Stage Girl who represents the school, and recommends that Jurina stops talking so weird if she wants to reach the top. Jurina tells her to shut up, because it's her identity, and showa yankee manga is her Bible. Kuina says she doesn't think they could get along, and Jurina says that's fine, because they'll be going head to head when the exchange program starts the next day.
Azuma is stumbling through the Siegfeld building wondering why it's so bright, and then wonders if it's made of marble (it's not), and stumbles around saying she can feel the sweet smell of youth, and that even the air in the space is precious. Ryoko appears and Azuma approaches her, stuttering, asking if she remembers her. Ryoko asks if they met before, and Azuma tells her they were in the same team for their Siegfeld entrance exams, and she was two seats next to Ryoko then. Ryoko apologizes because she doesn't remember, and Azuma says it makes sense that she doesn't remember meeting her once at the entrance exam. Ryoko asks if Azuma's from Romana, and she says yes, because she couldn't get into Siegfeld. Azuma asks Ryoko how she feels right now, having enrolled in Siegfeld and getting to shine and getting pampered. She grabs Ryoko's uniform and says that she should have been wearing it. Ryoko apologizes, and Azuma asks her why she apologized, because she didn't come here to get her to apologize, and then Ryoko runs away. Mikoto sees her as she runs off, and takes note of her, asking Azuma how she feels. Azuma says she feels awful, and she wants to go into hibernation immediately. She says the sunset is too bright, so she has to go.
Mikoto calls Haruka and asks how things are on her side. Haruka says that she obtained personal information about the selected members for the exchange program from students, and Mikoto asks her to share it with her later. Haruka asks Mikoto if she has any personal feelings related to the exchange program, and she says she doesn't, and is only doing this because it will be beneficial to them. Haruka says she sees, and Mikoto asks if she's unconvinced, and she says no. Haruka says the weather forecast says the rain will continue into the next day, and Mikoto says it seems like it'll be a long period of rain.
The next day, the exchange program begins at Siegfeld, and Saikawa-sensei announces that they will be performing Salome as a musical, with both schools working together. Mikoto raises her hand and suggests that Romana and Siegfeld each put on their own performance of Salome and see which is better, because Salome is a play that can be performed with a small cast. The Siegfeld students seem confused by this, and Kuina says she opposes it, because it won't be like an exchange program, and Minku agrees, saying that the stage is something they create together, so she wants to get along with them. Mikoto tells her not to make her laugh, and says she has no intent to work on the same performance as them. They will be advancing to the National Performance Competition, so it'll be a match to help them prepare for that. Minku doesn't understand what she said, and Kuina explains that they just want to practice for the competition, and they're looking down on them as easy opponents. Saikawa-sensei asks Mikoto if that was her idea, and Mikoto says that the Caligula's choices must be obeyed at Romana. Saikawa-sensei asks if their teachers think of that as a good thing, and Mikoto says that they might have their own thoughts about it, but the reality is that all of the Caligulas, including her, have produced results. Saikawa-sensei says she'll have to contact the teachers at Romana before beginning the exchange program, and tells them to go to the lesson room. Before the junior high leave, Mikoto tells them to say something if they want to. Kuina asks them to stop doing everything just for their own purposes, because it's a hassle. Mikoto asks what they want out of this exchange program, and Kuina starts to talk about how exchange programs should be for creating a play together in friendly rivalry, but Mikoto cuts her off, asking if she just wants to waste time working on an easy, meaningless performance that'll get them nice comments on social media, while they praise each other the whole time. She asks if they came to Siegfeld to be top stars, and says that the proof of standing at the top is doing anything to stand at position zero, even if it means knocking down one's co-stars. She asks what meaning there is to creating a stage together, and asks if they don't think it's stupid. Kuina says she doesn't think that way, and they take pride in their stage, and Mikoto says that she's trying to say that that pride is stupid. Kuina starts yelling angrily at Mikoto for saying that, and Stella interrupts, asking Mikoto if they could speak alone. Mikoto responds "alles klar" (understood in German), and Stella says Danke (thank you in German). Minku asks Stella if she knows her, and she says yes, they were classmates in Munich National Academy of Arts. Mikoto asks Haruka to take everyone to the lesson room, and as they move to leave, Jurina says she's got guts for trying to bite at Mikoto, and Kuina tells her not to act too familiar. Nadeshiko and Minku leave together, and Haruka calls out to Ryoko, asking if Mikoto's words got to her. Ryoko denies it and runs off. Shiro tries to stay with Stella, but Stella asks her to leave as well, because she wants to speak with Mikoto alone. Shiro obliges and leaves.
Mikoto says she wondered where Stella went when she left Munich, and was surprised she came to Japan. Stella asks why Mikoto left their old school as well, and Mikoto says it got boring after Stella and Shiro left, so she quit. Stella says that Mikoto might not know, but in Japan they have their own way of doing things. Mikoto laughs and asks if she's trying to lecture her about it, even though she's Japanese. Stella says that Mikoto lived in Germany for longer than Japan, so she wants to teach her that in Japan, everyone works together to create a performance. Mikoto tells Stella to look in the mirror, because her eyes are clouded over. Stella says she's different now, and Mikoto says that she was better how she was before. Stella says that the friends she made in Japan changed her, and Mikoto says it was for the worse. Stella insists that she became stronger, and she'll show her on stage. Mikoto doubts that she can do it because she ran away before, and Stella says she won't run anymore. Mikoto laughs and says that she can't feel any brilliance from Stella right now. She describes Salome as being "faithful to her own desires, without being held back by anything, evil with an unwavering faith", and asks Stella if she can play that, when she couldn't even perform the Queen of the Night properly. They sing a duet about giving in to the darkness and performing the role of Salome, which requires you to steal until the curtain falls. Stella falls to the ground at the end, and Mikoto says that she'll steal everything from Stella, and perform Salome. Shiro runs onto the scene and comforts Stella, demanding to know what Mikoto did to her, to which Mikoto says, "stop barking, guard dog", and that she was simply having an "exchange" with Stella.
Ryoko and Haruka are seen with umbrellas out in the rain, and Ryoko talks to herself about how she's good friends with the junior high, and has fun on stage, but... and then Haruka cuts her off, saying that only one person can become the top star. Ryoko and Haruka greet each other, and Haruka comments that Ryoko seems to have been affected by Mikoto, and says that it must be her first time meeting such an arrogant Stage Girl. Ryoko agrees that she was shocked, and Haruka says that what Mikoto says is true, because they have to steal from each other in order to become the top star, because there's only one throne. Ryoko tries to argue that you can't create a stage alone, and Haruka says that an actor who is meant to stand at the top will aim for the top even if it means using others, or by stealing others' brilliance. Ryoko is troubled by this and deep in thought, and Haruka says that from her point of view, Ryoko is the only one who has what it takes to become the top star, and leaves. Ryoko gets a phone call from her mother.
Kuina and Minku are walking in the rain with umbrellas, Kuina fuming about Romana's behavior and Minku trying to calm her down and say they can try talking to them again. Kuina says they can't, and continues walking, but Minku spots Stella standing in the rain without an umbrella, and they chase after her.
Shiro catches up to Stella first with an umbrella and a towel, and brings her under shelter. Ryoko seems stressed on the phone call with her mom, saying that she shouldn't be hesitating when her siblings are cheering her on, and then says that everything's okay and finishes the call. Azuma runs into her and says that she always wanted to meet Ryoko, and it's only natural that Ryoko wouldn't remember her, because she was just one of the 19 people who weren't chosen. But she was always trying to wrap her head around why Ryoko got into Siegfeld when she could barely hear what she said for her self introduction, and her singing and dancing were so terrible. She wanted to know why she wasn't chosen. Ryoko says she doesn't know, and Azuma says yes, neither of them know, and that's what's so frustrating about it. She asks Ryoko if she agrees that it'd be too cruel for someone she loves to refuse to look at her, even though there's no reason, and Ryoko can't say anything. Azuma says that Ryoko's acting was burned into her brain, or rather than acting, it was like seeing who Ryoko Kobato was as a person, and shocked her. For that moment, Ryoko was definitely shining. Ryoko says that she was just lost in it, and Azuma asks her what she was thinking about, and Ryoko said she was just thinking about how she had to get into Siegfeld. Azuma drops her umbrella, disappointed, because that means that Ryoko just felt that feeling more strongly than she did. Azuma says that she doesn't feel like losing to Ryoko regardless, so she'll show her that she's a better Stage Girl than Ryoko through the exchange program, and that'll be her revenge. She then takes her umbrella and leaves.
Shiro asks Stella what Mikoto said to her, and Stella tells her that Mikoto said she hadn't changed from when she was in Germany, and Stella wonders if it was selfish of her to think that she could start over after failing in Germany. Shiro kneels down in front of her and asks Stella to look at her, and says that Stella was reborn after coming to Japan. Shiro says that Stella is always shining brilliantly, even more than before. Shiro says that she was the one by Stella's side the whole time, and not Aragami, and asks Stella to believe her. Stella seems to cheer up a little and nods. Kuina and Minku catch up to them, worried about Stella because they saw her getting drenched by the rain. Minku is glad she's okay, and Kuina says that they can't go along with what Romana are doing any longer. Minku suggests that they go ask Saikawa-sensei about it, and Kuina tells her that this is their problem, and they can't always depend on the teachers and seniors for help, they have to become stronger as a unit and face off against Romana. Minku still wants to work together with Romana for the exchange program, but Kuina says that there's no way talking to them will work, so they have to do what they can, and prepare to perform Salome since Romana want a competition. She runs off, and Minku is sad because Ryoko is gone too, and then Stella leaves to talk to Mikoto one more time, with Shiro chasing after her, leaving Minku alone.
In the rain, Haruka asks Mikoto if she truly doesn't have any personal feelings in this exchange program, because she seems to be obsessing over Stella. Mikoto says that it's not obsession, but disappointment. When they were in Munich, Stella was the one who took the stage the most seriously despite being born to a famous family, and there was never and has never since been another Stage Girl who stole her heart as much as Stella did, to the point that it was painful. Mikoto says that Stella and Shiro became boring when they came to Japan, and Haruka says that they seem to be above average in acting, singing, and dancing, but Mikoto says that's not enough, because they need a soul, because the entire reason that people act and bare their hearts in front of an audience is because the audience seeks their souls. Haruka asks if she means to say that they don't have souls, and Mikoto says that their souls were dirtied, and they're completely different from how they were in Munich. Haruka says that Mikoto must think the same thing of the other Romana students then, and Mikoto says that Haruka's soul is beautiful, to which Haruka tells her not to make fun of her. Mikoto changes the subject and asks if Haruka thinks there are any students to watch out for, and Haruka says Ryoko, because her soul has a beautiful color. Mikoto agrees.
Stella appears and says she has a favor to ask of Mikoto, and Mikoto says that Shiro next to her doesn't seem to want to ask a favor. Shiro tries to ask Stella to leave because talking to Mikoto would be a waste of time, and Stella runs over to Mikoto, saying they can't create a stage on their own. She tries to convince Mikoto that they should work together on Salome, and Shiro once again tells her that it's useless, because none of her words will reach Mikoto. Mikoto laughs and says that's an awful way to put it, even though it's true. Stella tries to tell Mikoto that no matter how amazing of a Stage Girl she is, nobody will want to follow her if she just tries to force her ways onto others. Mikoto asks if she's talking about Munich, and Stella says that people aren't puppets for her to manipulate. Mikoto says that you need strong leadership in order to lead people, and says a quote, "An army of sheep led by a wolf is better than an army of wolves led by a sheep." (This is not a real quote: many Japanese sources state that it was said by Napoleon Bonaparte, but it appears to be the quote usually attributed to Alexander the Great, except using wolves instead of lions.) She says that it's a perfect fit for Stella right now, and Shiro asks if Mikoto thinks of herself as the wolf, and Stella as the sheep, and Mikoto says she's free to interpret it however she wants. Stella asks what Haruka thinks of this, and Haruka says she'll follow anything the Caligula says, and Stella questions if she's really okay with that. Stella says that Mikoto is just using them, and then thunder claps, and the other members of Romana appear. Nadeshiko says she's never thought that Mikoto was using her, and if anything, they're using Mikoto's charisma to bring themselves to a better position. Jurina says that she can't win yet, but she'll definitely become Caligula one day. Azuma says that Mikoto reached her hand out to her after she was rejected from Siegfeld, and she's dedicated her life to Mikoto, but if she wanted to give up the Caligula spot, she could take over too. Haruka says that Azuma can't do it, and walks over to Mikoto, saying that she's ready to stab Mikoto in the back at any moment if she feels that she's not suitable to be the Caligula. Mikoto laughs, comparing it to how Brutus killed Caesar. Stella is shocked, and asks what's wrong with them. Mikoto says that that's what Romana Drama School's "bond" is.
Romana perform a dance number, which the junior high join in the middle, but appear to stumble and fall over towards the end of their part. After the dance, the junior high are shocked by the quality of Romana's dancing, because they got the choreography down pat in only the first day of rehearsals. Saikawa-sensei marvels at their skills in dancing and how they can do all the directing by themselves, realizing that they really are good enough to be granted full authority. Stella says that Mikoto is playing Salome, she's already fully become Salome, who lures men and uses them as chess pieces to get what she wants. Minku asks the teacher what will happen to the exchange program, and Saikawa-sensei says that since the Romana teachers left everything up to Mikoto, they can only accept or decline their proposal. Kuina says they should accept it, since they'll be able to win if they practice enough, and she lightheartedly asks the other junior high members if they agree, but they look downcast. Mikoto claps and thanks Kuina for her decision. Kuina says that now is the only time Romana will get to be relaxed. Haruka asks if they can use the lesson room next door, and Saikawa-sensei says they can use any room that's available. Mikoto leaves, and as the other Romana members leave, Jurina takes Mikoto's coat from Nadeshiko, and Azuma holds onto Mikoto's coat as well, and Haruka tells them to cut it out (this part was adlibbed; in some performances, they fought over the coat more aggressively). Nadeshiko asks if Minku's not feeling well, because her dancing didn't seem like her at all, and it seemed like she was suppressing her individuality to fit in with everyone else, unlike when she was in Sweet Pleats. Minku shouts that she's not the same person she was when she was in Sweet Pleats, since they disbanded, she has to try her best to move forward together with the junior high, and she looks to them as she says this, but no one responds. Kuina tells Minku they should go practice, and she takes Ryoko as well, and tells Nadeshiko they'll show her Siegfeld's pride.
Stella asks Shiro if she thinks they can win. Shiro says that if she's being honest, it'll be difficult, because Romana all follow Mikoto's perfect leadership, and all of them have their own style of acting. Stella says that Mikoto asked her if she can perform Salome, and as she is now, she doesn't think she stands a chance. She says that when she thinks back to Munich, maybe Mikoto felt like Stella might not have what it takes to perform the Queen of the Night, and that's why she was trying to test her. Shiro denies this, saying that Mikoto was just trying to push her own ideals onto Stella, and the way Mikoto does things is wrong. Stella says that even despite that, Mikoto's performances shine, and she doesn't know what the right answer is anymore.
Stella leaves, and Haruka speaks to Shiro, saying that she looks unhappy. Shiro asks Haruka if she's satisfied with how Mikoto does things, and Haruka says that she'll follow her as long as she produces results, and if Mikoto fails to, then she'll see her off, for Romana's sake. Shiro says that she doesn't think that's a very good relationship, and Haruka says that she doesn't think that Shiro and Stella's relationship looks very good either. She asks Shiro if she's okay with staying as the guard dog of the Siegfeld family.
Meanwhile, Kuina, Minku, and Ryoko are practicing together, and Minku asks to stop because Kuina's training is too much for them, and they should take a break. Kuina says that they can't, because they won't be able to catch up to Romana then. Ryoko apologizes for not having enough stamina, and Kuina says that she's right, there's no point in practicing more if she's this tired, and they'll have to address that before trying to perform Salome. Minku accosts Kuina for her harsh tone, and Kuina continues her own practice. Minku still wants to try working on the performance all together, and Kuina says that Minku won't shut up about doing everything "together" like it's the only thing she knows, and they won't be able to work together with Romana when they're not willing to. Minku says she doesn't know how, but they can't keep going like this, because everyone's falling apart, and Ryoko says that it's because they don't have someone to lead them. Kuina asks if she's saying that she's not good enough then, and Ryoko says no, but Kuina says it's written on her face, and she knows she's not enough in terms of her skill compared to Stella and Shiro, but she's still the class president, so she needs to take charge. She apologizes to Ryoko for being so harsh to her, and even though she's lacking, she'll try her best. Since Shiro and Stella aren't there, she calls off the rehearsal, and Minku tries to ask Ryoko to go home together, but Ryoko says she has something to do first, and leaves. Minku and Kuina worry about Ryoko because she hasn't seemed like herself, and Kuina asks Minku to look after Ryoko.
Nadeshiko is running around in the rain without an umbrella, going up to Siegfeld students (shown as shadows on the wall) and asking them about Minku. She learns that Minku truly was not doing too well in school, and tries to say to a student that Minku used to be the center of an idol group called Sweet Pleats, and she's actually amazing, but the girl says she doesn't know and leaves. Jurina catches up to Nadeshiko with an umbrella, saying that Mikoto would kill her if she caught a cold, and Nadeshiko says that she doesn't know what she tried so hard for all this time. Jurina asks if Nadeshiko's crying, and she says no, it must be because of the rain.
Stella looks out at the rain and comments that it won't stop. Shiro, a few feet behind her, watches Stella as she leaves. Kuina comes up to Shiro and asks if she's okay with not talking to Stella, and Shiro says yes, because nothing's wrong. Kuina asks if Shiro intends to repeat her mistakes, and tells Shiro to talk to her if she's worried about something. Shiro relents, and says that she doesn't know what she should do for Stella. Stella was the one who stopped her when she went on a rampage during The Wartime of Farewells, so she wants to help her this time around, but she doesn't know what to do, whether to act as her follower, or comfort her as a friend. Kuina asks what Shiro wants to do, and Shiro starts to say that up until now, she's served the Siegfeld family as a maid, and Kuina stops her, saying that she's asking about her own honest feelings. Shiro makes a very confused face, trying to think about it, and Kuina laughs, remarking that she didn't know Shiro could make a face like that. Shiro says that it's a difficult question for her, and Kuina says that she knows the answer already, that she should give her a whack on the back as a comrade, as a part of the junior high. Shiro says it's difficult for her to understand what "comrade" means, as she understands the meaning of the word, but she doesn't really understand what it is exactly. Kuina says that she should act instead of just thinking, and the best remedy for worries is working out. Kuina says that working out can resolve any problem in the world, and Shiro says that might be a bit much, and Kuina says they're going to train, starting with the bench press, and Shiro says it's a bit sudden. From here on this part is adlibbed, Kuina says something about exercising and Shiro reacts: for the final performance, Kuina wonders if she should invite Stella to the bodybuilding club as well, and Shiro says she didn't join it yet, and Kuina says she's club member number two.
Ryoko is wondering why she was able to get into Siegfeld, and she thinks back on the entrance exam. When the teacher asked her what the most important thing to her in the world was, she said her family. She remembers this and then runs off.
Minku is looking for Ryoko, and then sees Saikawa-sensei walking by while talking to Romana teachers on the phone, telling them that it's too irresponsible for them to give all the authority to students and not show up at all for an exchange program, but the Romana teacher hangs up on her. Minku asks if everything's okay, and then tells Saikawa-sensei about how Ryoko has been acting strange since the exchange program started, and it feels like something bad might happen. She says that Stella and Shiro aren't around either, but Kuina is trying her best to bring everyone together. Saikawa-sensei says she'll try to talk to them, and tells Minku not to keep everything to herself either. After she leaves, Minku tries to call Ichie, her "master", but Nadeshiko and Jurina were watching from afar, and Nadeshiko tells her to stop, and takes Minku's phone. She says she'll answer Minku in place of Ichie, and says that the thing that brought all of the 110 members of Sweet Pleats together was Minku's brilliance. She screams at Minku, asking how far she's going to fall, and asking what happened to her Top Star who shined brighter than anyone else, saying that she's not Minku Umibe right now. Jurina stops Nadeshiko and Nadeshiko returns Minku's phone and leaves. Jurina says that they've known each other for a while, but that was the first time she saw Nadeshiko look like that, and she tells Minku that she pisses her off.
Stella says that she doesn't have any experience with a love that set her alight, or the impulse to deceive someone in order to gain something, or the desire to see something fall to ruin. She says that she doesn't have enough of anything necessary to perform Salome. Shiro says that it would make things so much easier if she could just say that there's no such thing as a correct answer, and she's scared of hurting Stella. Ryoko says that that girl's cute, and that girl has a nice figure, and that girl's smart, and she just ends up comparing herself to others, wishing for what she doesn't have. Kuina talks about how once you climb over a wall, there's yet another wall, and if you aim for the top, there will always be people who stand in your way, and her heart feels like it'll break. Minku wonders what brilliance is, and what it means to shine, and if her old self knew. They perform a reprise of Mikansei na Watashitachi with new lyrics about their current situations.
Ki-ringtone plays, and the Siegfeld Junior High's emblems are shown, and then a projection of the Collosseum is shown. Jurina and Nadeshiko show up in their Revue outfits, and Jurina's excited for the Revue. Nadeshiko says it's Jurina's time to shine. Jurina says that she has to earn some points here, or she won't make it to the Caligula competition. Nadeshiko wishes her luck, and Jurina says not to say that like it's not her business, because she's aiming for Caligula too. Nadeshiko says of course she is, but she has something else to do first, now. Jurina wants to know what she's talking about, but Nadeshiko says to focus on the Revue, or she'll get told off by Mikoto. Azuma appears, cackling, and says that this Collosseum, where the gladiators of Ancient Rome risked their lives in battle, is the perfect stage for them. Jurina says Azuma's looking excited, and she says of course she is, because this is her stage, the perfect stage for determining their survival as Stage Girls, mixing life and death together. Jurina says that this is their time to become unified, and Azuma says that it'll probably end up being a one-sided killing game for them. Haruka and Mikoto appear, and Haruka tells them not to let their guard down. Haruka says that in order to secure certain victory, they'll break up the enemy to defeat them, and confirms that that's okay with Mikoto. Mikoto says yes, and begins the Revue Collosseum.
Azuma and Ryoko face off first, and Azuma says that it looks like her feelings were stronger this time, since she gets to fight with Ryoko. The Revue of Revenge begins, and Azuma says that this is her play of revenge, and even if Ryoko doesn't have a reason to fight, she does, and she'll beat all of her built up hatred into Ryoko.
Nadeshiko faces Minku in the Revue of Idols (idol in the original meaning of the word), and says that it's a perfect title for them, because Minku was a perfect idol to her, and Nadeshiko idolized Minku. She says it's time to destroy that illusion of an idol. Minku doesn't want to fight with Nadeshiko, and Nadeshiko tells her to shut up, saying that when she sees how Minku is now, it feels like her past self is being invalidated. She says she wants this to end with her beautiful memories still intact, so she wants Minku to at least go down beautifully.
Kuina's partner is Jurina, and she says she knew that she would be, and Jurina said they promised to go all out against each other, after all. The title of their revue is Revue of Throughout Heaven and Earth I Alone Am The Honored One (天上天下唯我独尊のレヴュー, Tenjō Tenge Yuiga Dokuson no Revyū), but it was so long that the "ue" of Revue got cut off, so it just said "Rev" (レヴ, revu) at the end (and Jurina complains about this). Kuina says it's a pretty arrogant title, but Jurina says it's perfect for them, since they're aiming for the top. They fight violently, including kicking and punching each other.
Mikoto asks Haruka for a status update, and Haruka says that Azuma, Jurina, and Nadeshiko have all approached their opponents, and they appear to have the advantage at the moment. Stella and Shiro appear, Stella calling out to Mikoto, and Shiro tells Stella to step back. Mikoto says they can settle this argument about who's method is correct before they perform Salome, and Stella tells Shiro that she can't fight, and Shiro says she has to fight here. The title of the revue is revealed, but there's only glitching pixels in place of a title, and Stella refers to it as noise (thus we can call the title Revue of Noise, but the noise is only a placeholder for no title). Mikoto says it's because it would be pointless to give a title to a fight that's just about eating or being eaten. Mikoto and Haruka face off against Stella and Shiro, and eventually Stella calls to Shiro after Haruka kicks her, and Shiro responds and gets up. Mikoto calls out Stella's name, and says that she's a nice person, but she won't be able to protect anything with just kindness. Stella runs off, and Shiro tries to chase her, but is stopped by Haruka, who says that she's Shiro's opponent and calls her guard dog.
Kuina and Jurina's fight continues, and Jurina says that she's willing to kick down her classmates Azuma and Nadeshiko to get to the top, and asks Kuina if she's willing to kick down Minku. Kuina says she knows that they won't be able to stand at the top together.
Azuma cackles at Ryoko and says that the stage is so nice because the roles are clearly defined and there are lines, so even an introvert like her doesn't have to worry too much. She wonders if she's playing the role of the person taking revenge, then what does that make Ryoko? Then, Minku and Nadeshiko join them, and Minku tries to tell Nadeshiko that there's no reason for them to fight. Nadeshiko says that Minku is a fake after all, because her Minku is a perfect idol, not someone who would make such a defeated face. To her, Minku Umibe is a person who would stand in the center no matter what, and brighten everyone up with her innocent smile. Azuma laughs at Nadeshiko and says she's going off. Ryoko yells at them to stop fooling around, and says they've been saying a ton of selfish nonsense about revenge and the perfect idol, and they shouldn't push their delusions onto them when they don't know anything about them. She tells Minku to fight, and that they should show them the perserverance of the stragglers. Azuma cackles and says things are heating up, and it's time to start the second act of her revenge play.
They fight for a while until Shiro appears and defends them with the long version of her weapon, and Haruka runs in telling them to be careful, as Shiro's not just your average guard dog. Shiro tells Minku and Ryoko to go to safety and rest while she takes on the three Romana students. Shiro holds out well against the three of them, and Stella and Mikoto appear, Mikoto saying that Shiro is amazing, and she thinks better of her now. She asks Stella what she is in comparison, and says that it's pathetic for her to be out of breath from such a simple Revue. Mikoto says that if a wolf lives in a herd of sheep, it'll lose its fangs eventually. She says that the junior high must have stolen Stella's brilliance and talent, and Stella denies this, because it was only thanks to everyone that she could stand on stage again. Mikoto asks if she plans to just keep playing a friendly game of house with them forever then, and Stella fights back, saying it's not playing house. Stella says that there was no stage for her in Munich, but after crossing the ocean, she finally found a place to stand with the junior high, Shiro, Ryoko, Minku, and Kuina (who she calls Moriyasu-san). She says that's her stage, and Mikoto shouldn't mock their stage without knowing anything. Mikoto says that Kuina seems like a hard worker, but Stage Girls like that are a dime a dozen; Minku is a failure who couldn't make use of her own talent; Ryoko is a cunning woman who tried to escape getting kicked out by getting on Stella's good side because she was a Siegfeld. She says that Stella's friends have quite the nerve to even call themselves Stage Girls. Stella yells at her to shut up, because if she says anymore than that, she won't forgive her. Mikoto laughs, and says that overused lines like that won't reach the audience. Stella says that it wasn't a line, and she means it. Mikoto asks if she stopped acting, and smiles, saying it's good, and Stella's eyes with insanity in them are just like hers. Stella argues that she's different from Mikoto, but Mikoto says she's not, and yells "you are me" to Stella. She says stealing brilliance from others, standing at Position Zero, and dashing up the stairs to become a top star are what she and Stella are both like. Stella falls to the ground after being hit, and Mikoto asks if that's all her brilliance is. Stella gets up on her feet, and says a new Revue introduction: "Cutting myself free from my fate of fading, I've walked through a stage of farewells, getting hurt all the while. Even if you try to trap me with karma from the past, I'll protect my bonds with my friends until the end! Junior High 2nd Year Stella Takachiho! I'll show you our brilliance!" Mikoto is overjoyed at this, and asks Stella to hit her with everything she's made of.
The Revue of Rivalry begins, with the cast singing the theme song Remains. In the end, Azuma removes Ryoko's cloak, Nadeshiko removes Minku's, and Jurina removes Kuina's. Shiro then removes all three of Azuma, Nadeshiko, and Haruka's scarves at once, and finally, Mikoto removes Stella's. Shiro calls out to Stella, who says that she couldn't reach her, and then Shiro yells "Aragami!" and attacks Mikoto. Mikoto dodges her and holds her at swordpoint, once again telling Shiro "stop barking, guard dog", saying Shiro's worthless because she's looking to others to give her a reason to stand on stage. Shiro fights back, but then Mikoto and Jurina take their own scarves off, ending the Revue. Mikoto says that Shiro won, and Azuma says that she got her revenge, but she thought that she'd feel better than she does. Jurina runs to Nadeshiko, concerned, and Nadeshiko says that admiration is a fleeting thing. Mikoto asks Ryoko if she wants to come to her side, and says that if she comes to Romana Drama School, she'll receive many benefits, including her tuition fee being waived. Azuma is extremely against this, and Haruka tells her to shut her mouth, because the Caligula's word is final. Ryoko asks why she was chosen, and Mikoto says that a Stage Girl is a selfish, greedy, arrogant being, and she sees promise in Ryoko in these aspects. She says that Romana would be perfect for Ryoko, and draws her closer, saying that she should do it for her family who are cheering her on, because she'll prepare a stage for her where she can shine the brightest. Stella calls out to Ryoko, and Ryoko says sorry, but because she's poor, and her younger siblings are still little, so she needs to do it for her family. Stella calls her name again, and Ryoko just says sorry and looks away. Mikoto breathes in the air and says that it was a great Revue, and then says "bis bald" (see you later in German) to Stella, and leaves. Azuma goes to leave and tells Ryoko that she won't accept this, and Nadeshiko bids farewell to Minku, thanking her for letting her dream a nice dream. Jurina says that her Revue with Kuina was invalid because they were interrupted during their one on one, so she'll be waiting for a return match. Haruka asks Ryoko to leave with her, and she does, unable to look back at the junior high. Stella and Shiro leave.
Kuina puts her own cloak back on. Minku says that it's her fault that Kuina lost, and Kuina agrees that it might be. Minku apologizes, but Kuina says that she doesn't need to apologize, because Minku had something important on the line. Minku doesn't get it, and Kuina says she means Minku's trying to find out what kind of Stage Girl she wants to be. Minku starts saying she wants to be top stars together with Kuina, but Kuina cuts her off, and says that even Minku must know that she can't stay as she is now, and that only one person can become the top star. Kuina says that Minku told her she was self-important before, and Minku says it's because she used to be. Kuina says that she can't create a stage all alone, but self-importance is necessary to become a top star—the self-importance of considering yourself the best stage actor in the world, also known as pride. Kuina says that right now, she has what Minku doesn't have, and says she'll teach her, putting Minku's cloak back on her shoulders. Kuina asks if Minku's ready, and she says yes, and Revival of the Sparkle starts. Kuina says that one day she might not be Minku's side anymore, so she wants Minku to become a Stage Girl who can stand on stage by herself, and they sing through the Revue of the First Star, with Minku reaching Position Zero. Through the Revue, with Kuina's help, Minku realized that her brilliance came from standing in the center and receiving brilliance from everyone watching her around her. Minku hugs Kuina and thanks her, crying, and Kuina shakes her off, saying that she should laugh with her innocent smile instead of cry in times like these. Minku smiles, and does a neehee for Kuina. Kuina says that's it, and she's shining more brilliantly than she ever has before.
Stella and Shiro are still in the Revue Collosseum. Stella comments on how it's even raining in the theater, and Shiro says that it's from stage equipment. Shiro asks Stella if she didn't consider Ryoko a precious friend, and Stella says she is, but it's something that Ryoko decided. Shiro asks if she's okay with losing her friend, and she thinks that Ryoko wanted Stella to stop her, that's what her eyes were saying. Stella folds over and sobs, questioning what she should have done, and not knowing what the right answer is. She says that she doesn't have the right to stop Ryoko when she's like this, and Shiro says that she shouldn't need any sort of qualifications to save her friend. Shiro asks Stella to stand, and says that she won't spoil her with nice words, or show her any sympathy, and she misjudged Stella and is disappointed. She says she'll go bring Ryoko back and leaves as Stella continues to cry.
Ryoko, in a different place, is also crying thinking of Stella, and wonders why she's crying. Stella remembers how Ryoko was the first friend she made in Japan, and Ryoko thinks about how she's losing a friend. Stella says she shouldn't have let go of her hand, and Ryoko says she was the one who let go of Stella's hand. Stella says that Ryoko was the one who gave her the courage to stand on stage again, and Ryoko says that Stella taught her how to do a pirouette when she couldn't do it. They both wonder if they could go back to that time when they first met, and then sing a duet about their relationship, ending with Stella singing that she'll always remember their bond, and Ryoko singing that even if she goes back, she'll end up hurting Stella again, and Stella wishing to turn the clock back.
Minku and Kuina, in better spirits, plan to go take Ryoko back, and Shiro appears, asking if they're going to Romana. She says she'll go with them, and Minku asks about Stella, but Shiro says that Stella's not going, because she left her there, in order to give her a whack on the back as a comrade instead of a follower. A song begins with Stella talking about how she can't survive with how weak she is, and she can't protect anything with nothing but kindness, and when she stands, her legs freeze, but she cheers up, and her heart beats faster, and she gets stronger. She wonders why, and it's because she doesn't want to lose, but for who? All of the junior high say they can't stay as raw gems anymore, and sing about their past together. Ryoko runs off stage, and Stella starts to chase after her, but then runs in the opposite direction. The song becomes more hopeful as Shiro, Minku, and Kuina sing about being able to overcome anything, because they're Stage Girls, and say they're going to bring Ryoko back.
Finally, an animation of a clock is projected on stage. For every performance up until the final performance, the second hand ticked forward 10 seconds and then stopped. After reaching 0:00 at the final performance, the clock's hands went haywire, and several lines that are likely a preview of the next play appeared. Stella's voice played, saying she wished so many times that she could go back to that day, but time won't stop for anyone, and that's why... and the next Junior High stage play was announced for 2025.
